New York Met knuckleballer R.A. Dickey won his 20th game of the year earlier this afternoon against the hapless Pittsburgh Pirates — no thanks to Jon Rauch.
Dickey is the first Met 20-game winner since Frank Viola to reach the plateau. Prior to “Sweet Music,” “The Doctor” and David Cone were last Mets to win 20.
Dave Parker is one of the most underrated baseball players of all-time.
You have to wonder if his drug abuse hindered his chances at making the Hall of Fame.
Despite that, “Cobra” remained a productive player late into his career.
With all of his accolades, Parker still never received more than 25% of the Hall of Fame vote. If you ever get a chance, compare his numbers to Kirby Puckett’s.
Back from a Labor Day hiatus with a player who had several hiatuses (seven suspensions to be exact) throughout his checkered career.
Drugs and alcohol got the best of Steve Howe eventually, as he died in a car wreck. The autopsy showed he had meth in his system at the time.
Finally got around to watching “Moneyball.”
And this guy was in Billy Beane’s circle of trust.
Viva la Wash.
Yesterday, Oil Can Boyd told Jon Miller of WBZ radio in Boston that for the majority of his 10-year career, he was high on cocaine.
I guess that’s par for the course for someone whose nickname is derived from a giant can of beer. Maybe they should’ve called him “Casey Jones” Boyd instead.
I love how in this picture, Oil Can is wearing what appears to be one of those FBI windbreakers.
